THE DESIGNER
My name is Ame Cutter and I am the founder and jewelry designer of Camla, based in the Boston area. Camla has been in business since 2008, when I first opened my online Etsy shop to sell my handmade jewelry. I've had a lifelong fascination with fashion, art and design and enjoy traveling around the world to learn and be inspired by the uniqueness and beauty around us. My professional experience is broad based, with a degree in marketing, fine arts and an MBA. I also studied fashion design and metalsmithing/jewelry fabrication in Boston. I worked in the apparel industry and with various multinational corporations as a marketing professional for several years, spawning a multifaceted career that helped me develop diverse skills to venture into my true passion, which is jewelry design.


THE JEWELRY
My jewelry collection is all designed and handmade by me in my studio. There are certain styles that require special machinery that are outsourced to my trusted manufacturers. Being a small business owner, I wear many hats with a full plate, with some tasks being more fun than others. The part I love the most is the design process, conceptualizing, selecting the materials and gemstones and making the final design. I also find it very rewarding knowing my customers value what I love making. In addition to my online shop, I’ve been selling my jewelry at local markets primarily in the Boston and Providence area, building an extensive, loyal customer base over the years. Interacting with customers at these markets is the other part of my job I truly enjoy, in part, because it gives me a chance to see and hear firsthand what my customers like or are looking for.

THE PROCESS
Twice a year, I introduce new designs for the spring/summer and fall/holiday seasons and restock on Camla’s best-sellers and staple pieces. I also like to make one-of-a-kind and limited-edition designs, especially when I discover rare gemstones and findings during my sourcing trips. My designs are inspired by the aesthetic mix of geometric shapes, hammered textures and gemstone colors. The result is a unique collection that strikes a balance between minimalist and elegant with a modern style. I use the finest quality materials, including precious metals such as 14k solid gold, 14k gold filled, sterling silver and precious and semi-precious gemstones, freshwater pearls and genuine crystals.
